EXCITING NEWS

In the new few weeks major renovations will begin on the outside of the YMCA buildings. The construction for new roof, siding, windows, entrance way and heating system has been approved. The safety of the children during this time frame will be of the utmost importance. For a period of time parking may be limited and entrance ways may be congested however in the end it will certainly be well worth the short term inconvenience. This is something to celebrate and the children will be excited to see the construction part of the project!

Gym Renovations are coming along nicely. The ceiling has been replaced and now painting will start.

There will be full day school age care today as there is no school.

UPEI training entitled, The Digital Divide: Technology and Literacy in Early Years will be attended by Roxanne, Brandy, Sheila and Rayona

March 11

The Active Start Program for 3 and 4 year olds will begin. This program is led by Sportpei with professionalism conducting 4 sets of Gross Motor Development tests for a UPEI study that has the potential to change the way the government supports this area for children on PEI.

March 18-22

March Break week for school age children. Rayona is finalizing the week's events and this will be posted as soon as its completed.

Staff will be wearing Purple to work in support of Family Violence Prevention Week. We encourage the children to join in!

February 14, Thursday

Prekindergarten is offering Developmental Sharing Sessions with parents. This is an opportunity for Rayona to share your child's Portfolio with you and look at the specific learning goals for your child. You can sign up for your session on the Prekindergarten Parent Board.

February 18, Monday

Islander Day

The YMCA will be closed in celebration of Islander Day, have fun and enjoy the day with your family.

Emergent Curriculum Journey with Infants and Toddlers

Suzanne has joined a Focus group with the ECDA. This group is exploring the Welcome to Kindergarten program for preschoolers.

Roxanne, Brandy, Sheila and Rayona will be attending a workshop in March; The Digital Divide: Technology and Literacy in Early Childhood at UPEI.

We welcome Jeff MacKenzie to our team. Jeff is on the Y Digital Internship Program from February to May 2013. Jeff is a graduate of the UNB Kinesiology Faculty.

Welcome back Sheila Perry! We have missed you. Sheila will be joining Trish Gallant in the Toddler Room.

Nao Hockin is officially on Maternity Leave. We are so happy for her and her family as they wait for the arrival of their little girl!
